/i/video/VIDEO-2026-01-29-14-05-09.mp4

This week in science, Year 5 have been learning about the effects of water resistance. Class 5P enjoyed a fantastic morning investigating how streamlined boat designs affect water resistance.

Making the most of the heavy rainfall in recent days, they headed out to the large puddles on the field with a variety of paper boat designs. The experiment involved timing how long it took each boat to be blown across the puddle, allowing pupils to compare the effectiveness of different designs.

Outstanding Performances at the U11 Singles Table Tennis Tournament

On 15th January, King’s School in Harpenden hosted a highly competitive U11 Singles Table Tennis Tournament, with pupils from numerous schools across the region taking part. The standard of play was exceptionally high, making for an exciting day of matches.

Radlett Prep School was proudly represented by Brody, who delivered a series of excellent performances throughout the tournament, ultimately securing an impressive second place. Brody won 15 out of his 16 singles matches, losing 12/10 in the final, in a hard fought battle. His focus, determination, and skill shone through in every round, and we are delighted with his achievement.

Also representing Radlett Prep was Harley, who played brilliantly and successfully reached the quarter-finals, demonstrating great sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

Both pupils should be extremely proud of their efforts in what was a tough and fast‑paced competition. Well done, Brody and Harley — fantastic ambassadors for Radlett Prep School!

Celebrating Mrs Warren’s Retirement After Over 30 Remarkable Years

This week, Radlett Prep School proudly celebrated the retirement of Mrs Warren, who has been at the heart of our community for more than 30 years.

Since 1994, Mrs Warren has championed every child who walked through our doors — encouraging the shy, supporting the unsure, and celebrating the confident. Her belief in each child has helped generations grow in confidence, creativity, and joy.

One of her lasting legacies is our tradition of performances from Reception to Year 6. Thanks to her passion for music and theatre, countless pupils have stepped onto a stage for the first time and discovered talents that stay with them long after they leave Radlett Prep.

Beyond the children, Mrs Warren has also nurtured families and supported staff with kindness, guidance, and unwavering dedication. She has helped build a school community founded on care, respect, and celebration.

We thank Mrs Warren for her extraordinary service and the legacy she leaves — confident children, joyful performances, and a community strengthened by her vision.

She will always be part of Radlett Prep’s story, and we wish her every happiness in the years ahead.

Inspiring Girls Workshop

On Tuesday 13th January, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 girls were lucky enough to experience a Leadership Workshop delivered by Inspiring Girls UK in collaboration with Barbie Mattel.

It was a fantastic opportunity to empower our girls to learn and think about leadership roles, think about ways to overcome obstacles, discuss goals and, above all, have fun.

The visitors were impressed by the maturity, confidence and creativity that our girls showed.

Winter Wonderland

Excitement reached a crescendo on the school playground as pupils were asked to look to the skies for a very special visitor. Moments later, the distant rumble of rotor blades grew louder and a helicopter swept overhead, drawing gasps and cheers from the children below.

The aircraft set down in the field opposite, and Father Christmas emerged carrying a sack brimming with gifts. Greeted by his helpers, he crossed the field to waves and wide‑eyed astonishment, before heading into his grotto to begin welcoming families.

Following the arrival, parents collected their children and strolled around the school grounds, which had been transformed into a festive trail. Highlights included a living nativity and a cosy selection of seasonal treats—mulled wine, hot chocolate, mince pies—alongside stalls offering local produce.

In the woods, a magical light trail led to a colour‑changing firepit where children were invited to write a wish and cast it into the shimmering flames. The interactive display proved to be a standout moment, with families lingering to enjoy the atmosphere and take photographs.

The event concluded with smiles all around, as attendees left feeling thoroughly festive and looking forward to whatever surprise might be in store next.

Santa Dash!

Radlett Prep was brimming with excitement and holiday spirit this week as pupils took part in our much-loved Festive Santa Dash! The playground and hall were alive with laughter, energy, and plenty of Christmas magic.

Our Year 6 pupils stepped into the spotlight, donning vibrant costumes as Santa Claus and his mischievous elves. Their mission? To spread joy and festive fun across the school—and they certainly delivered!

Children in Years 1 and 2 made the most of their PE lessons, chasing Santa and his cheeky helpers with determination and delight. The air was filled with cheers and giggles as everyone tried to catch Santa before he dashed away. Did anyone succeed? Let’s just say Santa was extra speedy this year!

Adding to the excitement, Year 2 turned up the festive fun with an energetic round of Snowball Dodgeball, bravely taking on Santa and his elves in a flurry of flying snowballs. It was a thrilling match full of dodges, dives, and endless laughter.

To top it all off, prizes were up for grabs, sprinkling an extra layer of competition and joy over the day’s festivities.

What a fantastic way to celebrate the end of term—a day filled with teamwork, festive fun, and plenty of smiles. Thank you to everyone who made this event so special!

Year 5 Visit to British Schools Museum, Hitchin

Year 5 visit the British Schools Museum in Hitchin to enrich their topic learning all about the Victorian period. As part of the immersive experience, the children are transported back in time to an 1880 Victorian classroom and participate in the three traditional lessons of reading, writing and arithmetic, as well as learning about the strict punishments that were used, such as the dunce’s cap and the cane. Additionally, pupils also take part in a guided tour of the period headmaster's house, finding out how people in 1880 spent their time at home, how they ate, kept warm and clean, all without the modern materials and technology that make our lives easier today.

Wellie Walk

There was a buzz of excitement around the school on Wednesday, 15th October as children eagerly prepared for our very first Welly Walk! With wellies on and smiles wide, pupils and staff set off class by class to explore the perimeter of the school, strolling through fields and soaking up the fresh autumn air.

The walk was filled with joyful energy—there were conga lines, marching, and plenty of singing! Halfway through, everyone paused for a well-earned treat of hot chocolate before heading to the gardens and onto the field for a hilarious Welly Wanging competition. Laughter echoed as children flung their wellies as far as they could, hoping to win a coveted certificate or trophy. Winners from each year group will be celebrated in our next Celebration Assembly, with special trophies awarded to the overall champions.

The adventure continued through the woods to the fire pit, where children toasted marshmallows and enjoyed them while sitting on logs, surrounded by the beauty of the season. It was a memorable day full of fun, friendship, and fresh air!  Money raised will be going towards the mini-bus.

Remembrance Day

On 11/11/2025 the whole school gathered for a special Remembrance Assembly led by Mrs Flynn. She explained the significance of wearing poppies and why we pause each year on 11 November to remember those who served and sacrificed.

Throughout the past week, our House Captains have been busy selling poppies and other merchandise to pupils and parents, helping to raise funds for the Royal British Legion. We hope to have raised a generous amount for this important cause.

At 11:00am, the entire school stood together on the playground for two minutes of silence, with the Union Jack flag waving proudly in the wind.

Many classes had created beautiful wreaths by cutting and colouring poppies, while Theo impressed everyone with a felt poppy he carefully stitched by hand.

To mark the occasion, School Councillors from each class placed a ceramic poppy beneath the flag. These poppies were originally part of the iconic display at the Tower of London, making this moment even more meaningful.

Lest we forget.
